My Shiny Toy Robots

It’s the curse of a customiser that no matter how well a project turns out, you’re always noticing the flaws in it and thinking about how you can improve upon it next time. But skill comes with practice, and there’s a pleasure to be taken in looking back and seeing how far you might have come. So while I’m currently on a custom Dalek kick thanks to having more affordable and readily available parts to hand, I looked back on an older project and decided to give it a bit of a redux. Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150AD is one of my favourite bits of Dalek media, but unlike Dr. Who & The Daleks is unlikely get any official figures via Character Options since there’s no loopholes there for them to exploit. Luckily the colour schemes of the standard Daleks are much easier to reproduce, leading to my new and improved Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150AD Dalek Drone figure.

Release Date: November 2020 RRP: £19.99 2020 was the year that the B&M exclusive range of Doctor Who figures really kicked into high gear, and even after two impressive waves of releases Character Options weren't completely done yet. Just as the year was closing a further two sets were announced - one based on The Witch's Familiar from 2015 and another based on 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks . That latter release was the Coal Hill School collector figure set , featuring releases of both Seventh Doctor companion Ace  and a standard Imperial Dalek - two popular and now highly sought after figures.

For those who aren’t so into scavenging or producing alternate parts, the release of the  Jungles of Mechanus Dalek set   opened some great new opportunities for Dalek customisers. With the thicker bases and extended dome lights at their disposal, it wouldn’t take much to produce the  movie Daleks  that  Character Options  are unable to produce themselves. The black and red Daleks from  Dr. Who & the Daleks  are a given, but for my latest custom I decided to dig a little deeper into the world of  Doctor Who  fandom. The result of that is the  Mission of Doom  Dalek , one that might be an unofficial colour scheme but still has quite the interesting place in Dalek history.
